Training Programmes


DrNB NEUROSURGERY:

In the Department of Neurosurgery, the training of neurosurgery residents is one of our highest priorities, and we take pride in each resident's long-term success. The culmination of the six-year program is to maximize each resident's potential, optimize their clinical and academic skills, and prepare them to become leaders in neurosurgery.

Our Department runs the Neurosurgical training program since 2006. At the end of the course, the candidate should be able to:

  • Become proficient with the neurological exam.
  • Learn about common neurosurgical conditions and be able to identify urgent/emergent neurological or neurosurgical conditions and propose initial management.
  • Reflect and participate in group discussion principles of effective and professional medical consultation and the delivery of bad news to patients and families.
  • Diagnose and manage majority of conditions in the speciality of neurosurgery on basis of clinical assessment and investigations.
  • Acquire hand skills for neurosurgical procedures.

ADMISSION:

  • 2 seats per year.
  • 6 year course.
  • Candidate will be allotted by NBE through NEET.

INTERNATIONAL / NATIONAL NEUROSURGERY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM:

The department accepts international / national trainees for short term fellowships. Fellowship Programme would be focused on minimally invasive, complex & endoscopic spine surgery. (Approx 60 cases per month) Applications for same are directed to Dr. Alok Ranjan who is the chief of the department.

DrNB NEUROANAESTHESIA AND NEUROCRITICAL CARE

The DrNB Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care course has been designed to train candidates by the anesthesiologists in the principles and practice of Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical care. The students admitted to the course must be exposed to the entire range of cases in Neurosurgical (those requiring surgery as well as those requiring management in neuro- intensive care) and Neurological diseases (especially those requiring management in neuro-intensive care). The training program should enable the candidates to function independently as faculty / consultant in the anaesthetic / intensive care management of the patients with neurological disorders coming for neurosurgical / radiological intervention. These goals will be achieved through a closely supervised, graduated in-service training programme, involving progressive practical training and education within the framework of the department and its related fields.

At the end of the course, the candidate should be able to:

  • Understand physiological and pathological basis of central nervous system disorders.
  • Understand the theoretical basis of organ dysfunction and critical illness.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills to diagnose critical illnesses and their complications
  • Critically evaluate published literature and conduct independent clinical/basic science research investigation

  • Learn to practice evidence-based medicine in managing neurological patients.
  • Develop skills of communication with family members of critically ill patients.
  • Apply the highest ethical standards in the practice of medicine.
  • Become competent teacher of neuro anaesthesiology and actively participate in teaching programs and other academic activity.
